أُنشئ المركز الوطني للتفتيش والرقابة بقرار مجلس الوزراء رقم (277) في 2\4\1445هـ ، حيث ينسّق المركز جهود أعمال التفتيش والرقابة بين الجهات الحكومية
يختص المركز في وضع الإجراءات اللازمة التي تضمن الشفافية والنزاهة في أعمال الرقابة والتفتيش، ووضع الخطط والبرامج اللازمة لتطوير آليات وإجراءات التفتيش والرقابة، كما يساهم في تقليل عبء تكرار الزيارات الرقابية على منشآت القطاع الخاص
يهدف المركز إلى رفع معدلات الامتثال، والمساهمة في تحسين بيئة الأعمال بالمملكة، و تحسين كفاءة أعمال التفتيش والرقابة بشكلٍ عام.
