Welcome to Newcastle University's MathWorks Campus Community! Newcastle University's MathWorks Campus Ambassador for this year will be Gregorio Clancy, a final stage Chemical Engineering BEng student. The objective of this community is to demonstrate to Newcastle's STEM undergraduates the advanced capabilities of the MathWorks software packages, beyond the taught content of the various STEM degree programmes. While we also intend to provide supplementary assistance with any MATLAB/Simulink topics taught in your lectures, our focus will be on educating you about features and topics you may have otherwise not discovered. We hope is that you can go into your final year projects with an extended toolbox of abilities and experience in these software packages, enabling you to complete more advanced research, design and analyses than before. Currently, we plan to cover: - An introductory course to the building blocks of MATLAB; through MATLAB Onramp, an indispensable course for anyone wanting to grasp the fundamentals of the software, or gain an edge for the introductory coursework. - An introductory course to Machine Learning using MATLAB; how you can use MATLAB to model Linear/Logistic Regression classifiers (explained in the contexts of House Prices and Disease Diagnoses), including a summary of the mathematics behind such models. - An introductory course to Simulink; how you can use this to model complex dynamic systems (explained in the context of a car's autopilot), including a summary of the mathematics behind such models.
