The National Centre for Mathematics Education (NCM)

The National Centre for Mathematics Education (NCM) is commissioned by the Swedish government to coordinate, support, develop, carry out and follow up initiatives promoting Swedish mathematics education in pre-school, school and adult education, and to stimulate and disseminate research in mathematics education in Sweden. NCM was established in 1999 and has currently a staff of 13, with competence in a broad range including administration, research and teaching. The work at the center relies heavily on an extensive network of teachers, researchers, universities, school authorities and organizations within Sweden, and on international networks in the field of mathematics education and professional development for teachers. Examples of activities at NCM is production and publication of a journal for mathematics teachers (Nämnaren) and a research journal for mathematics education (NOMAD), and the production of materials and books for teachers professional development. The website (ncm.gu.se) is the prime channel for access to resources developed by the center. NCM is also engaged in in-service training of mathematics teachers, in cooperation with school authorities and municipalities, and many other activities.
