Neidhammer Coffee Co. was acquired by local nonprofit, 91 Place, on April 1, 2023. The coffee shop continues to operate under the name “Neidhammer Coffee Co.,” providing the same quality service, signature coffee drinks, and beloved crepes, while becoming a workforce development hub to empower youth facing homelessness, assisting them in the development of employability skills to advance in the labor market. 91 Place uses an innovative, holistic approach to disrupting generational poverty and chronic homelessness by providing early intervention for youth approaching adulthood who are experiencing housing instability. They offer transitional housing, mental health services, and workforce development for their residents on the near-east side of Indianapolis. “Our youth don’t have trouble finding employment but keeping jobs can prove to be a challenge. The youth we serve have lived a lifetime of trauma, and we’ve been extremely intentional in the design of our workforce-development program to provide a supportive and encouraging environment for our youth to learn and grow, both professionally and personally. It is our hope this opportunity will empower our residents and other at-risk youth as they improve their competencies and learn new skills through work-based experiences,” said Hascall Shaffer, Director of Workforce Development for 91 Place.
