Lipofilling is a surgical process in which adipose tissue (fat) is transferred from one area of the body to another, on the same person and in the same operating time (autologous grafting). This technique is very common and generally necessary for breast reconstruction after breast cancer, as it enables "natural" reconstruction with highly satisfactory results. It is also frequently used in cosmetic surgery for gluteal augmentation (buttocks), as well as for breast augmentation, with or without implants. In these indications alone, lipofilling accounts for over 1.5 million procedures per year worldwide.
