NERPO is a non for profit organisation driving emerging red meat farmer development and empowerment. The organisation boasts a 21 year legacy of lobbying and development and celebrates it's 21st year with the message: "Let's do things differently!"
Empowering and growing emerging farmers is not only critical to repair the historical injustice, it is an imperative with regards to food security and economical growth. NERPO is first and foremost a mouthpiece for the emerging black farmers and represent their needs to government and industry.
National and local government support is of course paramount to the success of this dream but so is the active participation of industry. Food security is one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and primary issues in the National Development Plan.
Against the backdrop of high unemployment rates, a slow economic growth and climate change challenges, NERPO acts as translator and communicator between the government organisations, industry and its members that seek skills development, technology enablement and financial support.
NERPO pledges its assistance and collaboration in realising these words of President Cyril Ramaphosa when he said in his State of the Nation Address: “Agriculture presents one of the greatest opportunities to significantly grow our economy and create jobs.”
Mr Aggrey Mahanjana, GMD of NERPO says: “We believe with the programmes and projects planned, especially introducing and providing technology platforms to emerging farmers, the organisation, through its members and network can play a critical role in growing the agricultural industry into a world-class case-study. We once more extend a hand of partnership to our sister organisations, industry, corporate South Africa, academic and research organisations and government departments.”
