Established in 1926 (as H Neville & Co.), Neville Instruments is based in Sheffield, a major centre of UK metal working skills and where stainless steel originated.
Evolving from the cutlery trade, high quality surgical instruments have been made in Sheffield for more than 200 years. It is from this, that the making of Tooth Forceps later developed into a small, specialised area. This is where Neville Instruments holds its place - very small, and very specialised.
Decades of direct contact with dental professionals has led to periodic developments in the design and refining of Neville products.
Our instruments are still hand crafted and can be ‘tweaked’ to suit individual requirements. This is particularly useful for a dentist with large (or small) hands or who is left-handed. Over the years, many customers have expressed their appreciation of the way Neville forceps feel ‘in the hand’ - testimony, perhaps, to all the effort we put in to beveling and rounding the edges of the handles!
Neville Instruments developed and specialise in Eagle Beak and Hollow Back instruments.
We developed Eagle Beak forceps in 1956. Long regarded as the most effective forceps pattern for the removal of lower molars, this instrument is anatomically shaped with rounded edges giving the Eagle Beak exceptional balance and 'feel'.
The Upper version is an Eagle Beak buccal blade combined with a split ‘half moon’ palatal blade meaning a very positive ‘hold’ can be taken around the roots of badly decayed molar teeth to greatly simplify difficult extractions. Customers have often referred to the Upper Eagle Beaks as ‘surgical savers’.
Hollow Back Forceps are refined by special hollowing out at the back of the beaks, making them thin and sharp, enables them to penetrate further and more easily through the peridontal attachments than with conventional patterns
