New Acropolis is an international non-profit organization founded in 1957 and present in over 50 countries worldwide. New Acropolis has been active in the Chicagoland area since 2005, and we are currently located in the Uptown neighbourhood.
We are a group of volunteers, dedicated to helping all people in the Chicagoland area to live more meaningful and thoughtful lives through classes in eastern and western philosophy, workshops, cultural events, and community service, among other things.
We aim to help move society towards greater degrees of self-knowledge and social responsibility through the promotion of philosophy, culture and volunteering.
At New Acropolis, someone can take a music workshop, volunteer for a park clean-up, or study the rich symbolism of Sub-Saharan Africa in our Symbolism class. Our activities are varied because human beings need a variety of experiences to help them come to "know themselves", as the ancient Platonic philosophers used to say.

Philosophical Education through courses, workshops, seminars, lectures, debates, annual celebration of World Philosophy Day, libraries, publication of books, magazines and research journals.
Culture
Cultural education through exhibitions, creative workshops, literary and music competitions, theatre groups, cultural tours, sports and martial arts, traditional festivals, fairs and conferences.
Volunteering
Volunteer opportunities include building centres of philosophical training, restoration of historic monuments, environmental education, cleaning of rivers, beaches and city centres, forest fire prevention campaigns, reforestation, campaigns for tolerance and solidarity, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief.
