New Generation Beekeeping

After realising a long held wish to learn bee keeping I became very concerned, part way through the course, that one of the reasons I left intensive agriculture was catching up with me again. The willingness to administer noxious substances to creatures being kept to create a food source was being sold to me as a 'must' or else I would be letting other similar producers down by not controlling pests and diseases. Thirty to forty years ago I heard all those arguments and many more in relation to food production and today many of the substances are banned and some will get you a criminal conviction should you use them today!! I decided I wanted my bees to be kept in an environment which resembles nature as much as possible, hence the Warré Hives developed in the late 19th century by a French abbot and the non intrusive methods of bee keeping.
