Newfound Materials

Founded in 2024, Newfound’s mission is to empower scientists to discover the world’s most needed materials not by accident, but by design. Today, it takes approximately 10 years and upwards of $10-100M to successfully synthesize a new material with desired properties in the lab and bring it to market. At the heart of this problem is synthesis: the conventional human-guided, trial-and-error nature of lab experiments often results in synthesis recipes being developed in an iterative fashion guided solely by chemical principles and scientific intuition. For this reason, many predicted materials that could be transformative for globally critical applications such as energy storage/generation and catalysis never get successfully made in the lab. Furthermore, those that do get synthesized on the lab scale often face challenges during scale-up for production. To address this problem, we’ve developed a predictive platform with the following modules: 1. AI-driven high-throughput screening for rapid material candidate discovery 2. Inorganic retrosynthesis engine 3. Virtual reactor lab simulations to model real-world synthesis conditions 4. Adaptive synthesis optimization for continuous improvement and scale-up
