NextG2Com

The Vinnova competence center Next Generation Communication and Computational Infrastructures and Applications (NextG2Com) aims to catalyze the required transition from Pipelines to Platforms, i.e. turning today’s infrastructure and application technologies that, like pipelines, handle data in a fixed manner, into future fully integrated general purpose platforms, utilizing recent machine learning (ML) advancements. The center will focus on integrating multiple layers of technology and components into end-to-end systems, covering infrastructure technologies and design method- ologies for next generation communication and computational systems and applications, rang- ing from wireless communication technologies and networks, to software, data, security, and relevant application areas. NextG2Com provides technological solutions and explores archi- tectural trade-offs on the boundary between infrastructure and the application specific. Consequently, we contribute both to near-term applications and standardizations as well as long- term paradigm shifts, thereby adding to Swedish industry competitiveness. Lund University (LU), with world-leading research on wireless systems, software engineering, and cooperative robotics, is a natural coordinator for this cross-disciplinary center. Further, the center aligns perfectly with the profile area on Pillars of AI and Digitalization (AID) at the Faculty of engineering at LU (LTH).
