Himawari

Himawari is a Student-led NGO founded by international students from the International University of Japan, dedicated to community service, sustainability, and global citizenship. Rooted in Minamiuonuma, Japan, and inspired by the values of empathy and purpose, we work to bridge cultures and empower communities both locally and globally. Our work in Japan focuses on supporting the elderly, assisting local farmers, providing English education in rural schools, and mobilizing for disaster relief. Beyond Japan, we extend our mission to our home countries — including India, Myanmar, Nigeria, Uganda, and Sierra Leone — where we run environmental awareness programs, mentorship pipelines, skills training for youth, and educational support in underserved regions, including refugee communities. Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Himawari is committed to building cross-border partnerships, nurturing the spirit of volunteerism, and creating inclusive opportunities for students and young leaders to grow through service. By combining Japan’s model of resilience with grassroots action, we aim to inspire change and cultivate a new generation of globally conscious changemakers.
