Tropical forests are key to reach the global climate and nature goals. The Norwegian government launched NICFI in 2008 and has since disbursed USD 5 billion to help preserve the world’s tropical forests and improve the livelihoods of those who live there.
NICFI is administered by the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and the Environment in collaboration with Norad (The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation) and Norwegian Embassies in selected countries. The initiative supports bilateral agreements with forest countries, multinational organizations and civil society.
