OVERVIEW: The Nigerian Girl In STEM Foundation (NGIS) is a network of volunteers who are committed to supporting aspiring Girls and Young Professional Women in STEM Careers through mentorship, professional development, outreach and funding. As a network we advocate for the inclusion of young girls and women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by providing knowledge sharing and mentorship platforms, hosting STEM Education Outreach especially in underserved communities, as well as facilitating access to Scholarship Opportunities, Educational Materials & Skills Development Initiatives. Through STEM Education, our goal is to foster a generation of young girls who, using elements from all scientific fields, can acquire the ability to solve problems & prepare to thrive in the present & future digital world as well as solve authentic problems for the complex world around them. NGIS 'MAKE THE FUTURE YOURS' STEM SENSITIZATION OUTREACH PROGRAM: We hold periodic in-person & virtual STEM Education outreach programs themed 'Make the Future Yours - Inspiring a Generation of STEM Excellence', to schools & communities within Nigeria and Africa as well as collaborate with other global educational organizations. These curated learning events helps girls understand the importance of STEM while awakening their interest in STEM Careers. Some Past Event Topics include: 'Careers in STEM.', 'How to Build a Successful Career in STEM." 'The Power of Purpose, Determination & Skill.', 'Life as a Female in STEM.' NGIS STEM CAMP UPSKILLING PROGRAMME: A one-on-one hand-holding Career Upskilling & Multiskilling program curated in 2020 to help young girls & women acquire STEM skills to enable them unlock career opportunities & progression, through mentorship & accountability partners. Skills include Data Analysis, UI/UX Design, Web Design, Software Testing, etc. Our Participants leave feeling empowered to make the future theirs and unleash their creativity.
