National Institute for Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa" Overview

Located on the Romanian Black Sea coast, the National Institute of Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa" is mainly involved in fundamental research and technological developments in the field of oceanography, marine and coastal engineering, ecology and protection of the marine environment, and the management of living resources of the Black Sea or other marine areas of interest, in order to meet the requirements of national and international interests in its exclusive economic zone, as well as the obligations imposed by Romania’s accession to international conventions. It is the technical operator of the national network for physical, chemical and biological monitoring and marine/coastal erosion surveillance, being empowered to propose new regulations in this sector to the coordinating ministry. Ensures the scientific substantiation of the national strategy in the field of marine and coastal environment, based on the results of its own research and development activities, as well as regional and international cooperation activities.
