Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (GCRI) - CzechGlobe is a public research institution, European center of excellence investigating the ongoing global change and its impact on the atmosphere, biosphere and human society through the use of the latest techniques and instrumentation. The research is aimed primarily at the dynamics of movement of greenhouse gases in the boundary layer of the atmosphere, the nature and dynamics of the ecosystems’ carbon cycle, GC effect on controlled ecosystems, climate prediction on a regional scale and evaluation of the social impacts of GC including the prediction of risk management. The modern scientific research infrastructure whose major part was built from EU funds within the framework of the Operational Programme Research and Development for Innovation "CzechGlobe - Centre for the Study of Global Climate Change Impacts" is represented by: A network of ecosystem stations for long and precise monitoring of the fluxes of greenhouse gases between the biosphere and atmosphere; Airborne remote sensing laboratory for process imaging of the carbon cycle; Atmospheric station Křešín near Pacov, which serves as a national monitoring point of the occurrence and remote transmission of greenhouse gases; Systems of long-term impact experiments allowing the evaluation of the expected impacts of global change on metabolism, physiology and plant production, comprising 24 cultivation chambers at Domanínek and cultivation lamellar mini-domes at Bílý Kříž; Central physiological, isotopic and metabolomic plant laboratory for studying the processes of carbon assimilation.
