The National Kaunas Drama Theatre, which was founded on December 19th, 1920, is the oldest professional theatre in Lithuania. There is always a harmonious symbiosis in the theatre, which is preparing for its 100th birthday: the modern building is shrouded in deep history, the classic plays in the repertoire are complemented by the addition of contemporary plays and experimental performances, the mature actor troupe often welcomes new talented "fresh blood". One of the theatre's main visions is to educate a society that is receptive towards the professional theatre stage art, and that can be accomplished by presenting works of the highest artistic value. Also, Kaunas National Drama Theatre follows the direction of a socially responsible theatre. For several years now, it has been organizing performances for audiences with hearing and visual impairments, and the building is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
