The purpose of NMVO Italia is to establish and manage the National Medicines Verification System (NMVS), the Italian database that contains information on the legitimate "unique identifiers" of medicines, which can be consulted to verify the authenticity of drugs placed on the market in Italy. The company operates in compliance with the requirements of the European Medicines Verification System (EMVS) in order to implement Directive 2001/83/EC of November 6, 2001, as amended by Directive 2011/62/EU of June 8, 2011, and Delegated Regulation 2016/161/EU. NMVO Italia is also responsible for cooperating with the European Medicines Verification Organisation (EMVO) and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive and the related Delegated Regulation.
