National Network of Depression Centers- India Foundation

The National Network of Depression Centers- India Foundation (NNDC-IF) is a non-profit organization, established in New Delhi, India, that focuses first and foremost on mental health literacy in order to eradicate the stigma of depression. It was founded by Murali Rao, MD, Chicago, USA, to help improve QOL of the Indian population affected by depressive and mood disorders. NNDC-IF intends to improve the lives of those affected by focusing on creating scientific awareness and increasing mental health education amongst healthcare professionals and the society through their exclusive Behavioral Health Training Program (BHTP). NNDC-IF was inspired by and modeled on its American counterpart, NNDC. Established in 2008, NNDC is a non-profit consortium of 25 leading clinical and academic institutes in the United States which aims to establish research centers through partnership programs, advance scientific research, and provide stigma-free care. Similar to NNDC, NNDC-IF is a forerunner for academic and institutional authorities on mental health. Ultimately, NNDC-IF’s mission is to use the power of its worldwide network to act as a unified platform to bring collaborative and innovative mental health awareness to the Indian population. This prestigious, worldwide network includes medical colleges, hospitals, clinics, physicians, social workers, other practitioners, and mental health organizations and institutions. Their current partners include institutions such as NNDC, NNDC- India Alliance (Chicago), The Pranab Mukherjee Foundation, The University of Delhi, Sikkim University, and Workplace Mental Health. Additionally, NNDC-IF has members hailing from renowned Indian institutions such as AIIMS Delhi, NIMHANS, PGIMER, RMLH, and VIMHANS. Together, this worldwide network will address the gaps in mental health care, education, and research for the population of India.
