No Startup Hipsters started out as a book and has now evolved into a community. Startup ecosystems worldwide have become filled with a lot of noise. The recipe being preached to most entrepreneurs is get a team, build anything, raise some funding, test it, if doesn’t work “pivot”. Does such a linear model of company building make sense? Especially when you are trying to build an innovative company tackling a very complex problem or commercializing a very sophisticated technology. Although starting a technology startup has never been easier and cheaper, building a real scalable business that solves a real problem for real people stays just as elusive. Startup ecosystems worldwide have gotten filled with pre-accelerators to coach startups for accelerators, excessive amount of hackathons, buzzwords which make you switch off mid-conversation, apps to make founders look smart, more angel investors than founders and the list goes on. In the last five years, either as angel investors or mentors, we have worked with more than 100 startups from over 20 countries as varied as UK, USA, Russia, Brazil, India, Cameron, Chile etc. We noticed most first time entrepreneurs wasting immense resources and efforts, especially due to generic advice they received from “mentors”. So we decided to write this book to provide experiential decision frameworks for early stage company building. The idea is to enable the entrepreneur to ask and be able to answer for himself really hard questions about where he or she is headed. The book is but the first step. We have built a global community individuals working on problems worth solving. The book forms the basis of decision making while our thought leaders share what they are working on.
