The Black Woman’s journey in the U.S. has been one of triumph and perseverance. Her unflinching and courageous spirit even when confronted by the damaging intersectional forces of racism and sexism have allowed her to continue to stand. But that fortitude has been at a very high cost. Black women are more likely to have a higher rates of cardiovascular disease risk factors and mortality; they are more likely to die related to complications from childbirth; and they suffer from a host of other health, social and economic disparities.
