Nofir - Bringing value to marine waste Nofir is a Norwegian company, which collects and recycles discarded equipment from fishing and fish farming. Collected material is transported to the factory in Lithuania where equipment is dismantled and prepared for recycling. In this way the company not only prevent fishing nets from going to the seas but also helps in creating new, valuable products like clothes, furniture, carpets, and others. Nofir was founded in 2008 with the purpose of establishing a nationwide system for collecting discarded fishing and fish farming equipment in Norway. 15 000 tons of plastic equipment from the fishing and fish farming industry is discarded each year in Norway. In 2012 Nofir were granted support from European Union through the Eco Innovation scheme. Since then we have collected material all over Europe. Nofir is collecting equipment from waste facilities, net lofts, fishing vessels, ports and other places all over Europe. This provides all actors the possibility of using Nofir regardless of quantities and location. The waste owners are only responsible to load the trucks we send. Nofir takes care of all other work, including paperwork. We take great pride in our work which helps keep our planet clean. Our work reduces plastic in the sea, plastic on landfills, decrease oil consumption and decrease the CO2 emission. As a rule of thumb one kg recycled plastic equals two kg of reduced CO2 emissions. Marine waste are now turned into new products – instead of being an environmental problem it is now a resource.
