Noor Abu Dhabi is the world’s largest stand-alone operational solar plant, located in Abu Dhabi’s Sweihan region. Owned and operated by Sweihan PV Power Company (SPPC). The massive facility began its commercial operations in 2019. The plant is considered one of the first initiatives to deliver the UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050. By having more than 1200 MW Capacity of fully operational photovoltaic technology that provides power supply from clean energy to 90,000 households in the emirate with more than 3.3 million solar panels in one site through a long-term power purchase agreement with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC). Noor Abu Dhabi employs an advanced system to clean its solar panels using waterless robotic technology. The solar plant contributes towards reducing the emirate’s carbon dioxide emissions by 1 million metric tonnes per year, which is the equivalent of removing 200,000 cars off the roads.
