Hej! Welcome to Northvolt in Germany. With our main office in Hamburg, all eyes are on the city of Heide and the Dithmarschen region in Schleswig-Holstein where we are planning to build Northvolt Drei — one of the largest battery gigafactories in Europe.
Powered by the most sustainable, low-carbon energy grid in Germany thanks to local wind power, our goal is to supply automotive customers with 60 gigawatt hours of sustainable, high-quality battery cells every year.
Northvolt was founded in 2016 to enable the transition to a decarbonized future by establishing a sustainable battery industry. To do this, we’re pioneering a new approach to battery manufacturing rooted in a commitment to fossil-free energy, sustainable sourcing of raw materials and recycling.
Today, Northvolt has grown to over 5,500 people from over 120 different nationalities, and has secured over $55 billion worth of contracts from key customers, including BMW, Fluence, Scania, Volkswagen, Volvo and Polestar.
