Not Beyond Redemption

Not Beyond Redemption is a charity that provides free Family Law advice and representation to mothers in prison. Our team comprises specialist family lawyers and volunteers who are committed to assisting in re-establishing critical access and relationships between mothers and their children. What We Do: We give a voice to the dispossessed, advocating for women whom society may believe are beyond redemption. Through our pro bono legal clinic at female prisons including Send, East Sutton Park, Downview, Peterborough, Eastwood Park, Styal, and Bronzefield, as well as our remote clinics at other women’s prisons across England, we offer extensive legal advice on children's matters. Why We Do It: Since the implementation of the Legal Aid, Sentencing, and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012, significant cuts to legal aid have left many incarcerated mothers without the means to seek legal support to reconnect with their children. Not Beyond Redemption was established to bridge this gap and ensure that no mother in prison loses contact with their children due to incarceration. Maintaining relationships between mothers in prison and their children is crucial to lowering re-offending rates, aiding rehabilitation, and improving the well-being of both parties. How We Do It: Our scope of work is varied and ranges from helping women understand their rights to writing legal letters and representing them in courts across the country – all on a pro bono basis. We extend support to the families of the women and continue our assistance after the mothers have been released from prison. We walk side by side with our clients, assisting them in accessing additional support to help them turn their lives around.
