The Non Resident Tamils Welfare Department, operating under the Government of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the development of Tamils residing beyond Tamil Nadu's borders. With a focus on the overall growth of the diaspora, the Department supports all Non Resident Tamils across the globe, through targeted schemes and initiatives.
The Department conducts an annual event to celebrate and recognise the contribution and growth of Non Resident Tamils, called the "World Tamil Diaspora Day".
