PROBLEM

People with IBD can have average annual healthcare costs more than three times higher than would otherwise be the case: $23,000 vs. $7,000.
SOLUTION
Intervene patients' diet and lifestyle, aiming for greater food and nutrient diversity in daily intake. This high diversity can modulate intestinal bacterial populations in patients with ulcerative colitis, reducing inflammatory signals while increasing intestinal production of anti-inflammatory compounds. By modulating the intestinal bacterial populations and the immune response, the number of disease episodes will decrease.
