The Dutch Society for Human Genetics (NVHG) is the scientific association for everyone in the Netherlands who is active in the field of human genetics.
Our Mission
It is the NVHG’s mission to support the development of the knowledge of Human Genetics in the Netherlands and to help to inform the public, patients, and stakeholder groups about the progress and issues surrounding this.
We define “Human Genetics” as the study of the human genome and mitochondrial DNA sequence, and its modifications and variations, both in patients, healthy persons and populations. and the inheritance of such information in related human beings.
NVHG is aiming to accomplish this mission by being the national meeting platform for researchers, physicians and other professionals in human genetics, and by providing insights in the landscape of human genetics in The Netherlands, by bringing together various stakeholders, e.g. hospitals, research institutes, ministries, insurance companies and technology developers.
Our Vision
We subscribe to the vision of the Council of Europe, that “the development of genetics in healthcare has a major impact on the organization of health care, leading to shifting from curative to preventive services, from in-patient to out-patient treatment, from specialized genetic services to genetics as an integral part of general health services.”
