NYC Real Estate Investment Cooperative

The NYC Real Estate Investment Cooperative (NYC REIC) is a group of over 500 New Yorkers pooling our money and power to secure space for civic, cultural, and cooperative use in New York City. We have created a different model of ownership, stewardship, and local democratic control of land that allows local organizations and businesses to gain access to commercial space. Along with partner institutions and groups, we provide financing for the acquisition and development of rent-paying non-residential properties throughout the five boroughs. The REIC is organized as a New York State nonprofit corporation, governed by members who vote to invest in real estate that advances our mission. Membership is open to all individuals who live in New York City. All dues-paying members of the NYC REIC have equal decision-making power over which projects we support. Our members invest in community in exchange for different types of returns, both tangible and intangible. Consistent with the principles and spirit of the cooperative movement, we look to make long-term, stabilizing, and transformative investments for the mutual benefit of our member-investors and our communities. Our goal is to build an inclusive, resilient city by stabilizing commercial rent, and hopefully reducing it, for organizations that promote the culture and wellbeing of our city.
