Oak Lodge is a regional maintained Special Education Needs School in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Oak Lodge specialises in the education provisions for pupils aged 10 to 19 who are D/deaf and/or who have Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
The school ensures the learning development of each of our pupils and follows a pupil-centred multi-modal language and communication approach which incorporates British Sign Language, English and Signed Supported English based on the pupil’s identified strengths and preferred learning style.
We have a highly qualified staff which include Teachers of the Deaf (ToD), Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Teaching Assistants, all of whom are extremely experienced with working with deaf and hearing impaired children including those with additional needs.
Our curriculum incorporates personalised learning and thinking skills, functional skills and an enrichment programme aswell as their main learning. Our pupils follow individualised pathways covering a wide-range of learning levels such as Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 offering them Skills for Life or Pre-Vocational Pathways of learning. Our Skills for Life curriculum recognises that many young people have a range of complex learning difficulties. This curriculum is designed to meet learning needs using a personalised learning approach. Whilst the Pre-Vocational Pathway curriculum at Key Stage 4 and 5 aims to provide our pupils with the opportunities to access certifications with great flexibility in terms of the time they are given to complete a course.
We offer weekly residential facilities available to the pupils that live within other local authorities. Our Sixth Form supports our pupils at local colleges to access academic, vocational and practical courses.
