PT Obi Nickel Cobalt merupakan ekspansi dari Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPAL) yang menjadi pionir penghasil bahan baku baterai mobil listrik di Indonesia. Wilayah operasionalnya berada di Kawasan Industri Pulau Obi dan karena permintaan nikel dunia semakin tinggi maka berdirilah PT Obi Nickel Cobat. Proyek ini juga menjadi bagian dari Proyek Strategis Nasional di Pulau Obi. Bahan baku nikel limonit (tipe kadar rendah) bersumber dari penambangan Izin Usaha Pertambangan (IUP) Produksi Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP) dan Gane Permai Sentosa (GPS) yang merupakan bagian dari Harita Nickel. Nikel limonit sebelumnya tidak dimanfaatkan dan tidak memiliki nilai ekonomis, tapi kini telah memiliki nilai strategis. Melalui teknologi HPAL, nikel limonit mampu diolah menjadi Mixed Hydro Precipitate (MHP) Nickel dan Cobalt yang menjadi bahan baku utama komponen baterai Electric Vehicle.
