OBSEA Observatory - UPC

SARTI is a leading research group at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), dedicated for over 25 years to developing advanced technologies in marine instrumentation, underwater monitoring systems, and ocean observatories. With extensive expertise in electronics, communications, and marine engineering, SARTI plays a key role in national and international marine research and innovation projects. OBSEA is SARTI’s flagship achievement: a coastal multiparametric cabled observatory, located 4 km offshore from Vilanova i la Geltrú (Spain), at 20 meters depth. Deployed in 2009, OBSEA is the first underwater cabled observatory in Spain, providing real-time data for oceanographic research, technology development, and environmental monitoring. OBSEA enables: - High-frequency monitoring of marine ecosystems with advanced sensors and instrumentation. - Development and testing of innovative optical, acoustic, and robotic technologies. - Integration into European marine networks like EMSO, EMODnet, ETN, and MONGOOS. Citizen science initiatives, engaging society in ocean monitoring and conservation.
