L'Observatoire du Plancton: an association dedicated to the protection of aquatic environments Founded in 2003 by a trio of enthusiasts, including Pierre Mollo, a biologist and research professor specializing in plankton studies, L'Observatoire du Plancton is a non-profit association located in Port-Louis, Morbihan. The association primarily has an educational mission. It strives to share its knowledge of aquatic environments with the general public and schools to promote their sustainable protection. The goal is to raise awareness about the importance of plankton in aquatic ecosystems and, more broadly, life on Earth. L'Observatoire du Plancton has been accredited for "Environmental Protection" since 2021, "Complementary Educational Association to Public Education" since 2022, and "Youth and Popular Education" since 2023. In addition to its educational role, L'Observatoire du Plancton carries out missions for various territorial organizations, such as the Water Observatory, the Natural Park, and the Mixed Syndicate. These missions include plankton monitoring and physico-chemical analyses of water in various areas along the southern Brittany coast (Gulf of Morbihan, Etel River, Lorient Bay, Petite Mer de Gâvres, etc.). Since 2021, L'Observatoire du Plancton has also been working with recreational shore fishermen to raise awareness about best practices.
