Ohrna

Ohrna is a social enterprise practicing natural luxury that is gentle on people & the planet. We are a design-led organization that uses design as a tool for inclusion and social good. We create contemporary, functional products with a touch of tradition. Our products are all sustainable, rooted in craft traditions. Ohrna is woman owned and all our products are handmade by homebound women. Ohrna means ‘veil’ in Bengali, a language of India’s east. For a woman, an ohrna adorns her attire, provides her the grace and comfort she seeks and shields her from the harshness of the sun. Our products are of a jute base combined with pure cotton. Ohrna patronizes jute because it is a natural vegetable fiber. Our packaging is also made of up-cycled saris. We provide free training and raw materials to homebound women so they can work while balancing their family and home commitments, without needing to leave home. This also fulfills our core value of creating financial freedom and a sense of self-belief among women who cannot go out to work.
