About Research Centre for Islamic History Art and Culture(IRCICA) Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC)
About IRCICA, a subsidiary organ and the first cultural centre of the OIC, operates as an International Diplomatic Research Center in the fields of Islamic History, Arts and Culture. The 57 Member States (MCs) of the OIC are also members of IRCICA contributing to its budget. Background IRCICA, in pursuance of Resolution No. 3/7-ECS adopted by the Seventh Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (ICFM), held in Istanbul on 1976, was founded as a subsidiary organ of the OIC. The Establishment Statute of the Centre was adopted by the 9th ICFM (Dakar, 1978) and became operational upon the adoption of its first annual work program by the 11th ICFM (Islamabad, 1980). Later on, by decision of the 27th ICFM (Kuala Lumpur, 2000), IRCICA was merged with the International Commission for the Preservation of Islamic Heritage (ICPICH) where it fulfilled the functions of the Secretariat and Executive Organ till June, 2000 incorporating ICPICH's activities into its work program. Objectives and Functions The basic mandate drawn up for IRCICA is threefold: 1. Fostering Knowledge and Cooperation: To serve as a central hub for scholars, researchers, and artists, facilitating studies and research on Islamic civilization, promoting cooperation to eliminate prejudices, and fostering dialogue between Muslims and other communities worldwide. 2. Cultural Preservation and Awareness: To conduct research, publish scholarly works, and organize cultural events that highlight the history and contributions of Islamic arts and sciences, aiming to enhance global awareness and appreciation of Islamic culture and civilization. 3. Support and Development: To support the cultural needs of Muslim communities, preserve Islamic heritage, develop educational programs, and establish partnerships to promote studies and recognition of achievements in Islamic culture and civilization.
