Sports provide kids a unique way to strengthen their bodies, minds and characters. In fact, sports may be just the thing that helps change a child’s life by improving their health or giving them a much-needed place to belong. Cleats for Kids (C4K) is an OKC-based nonprofit organization that empowers kids through sports by providing the gear needed to play free of charge.
C4K started in 2011 from a pile of basketball shoes, soccer cleats and football gear in the corner of an Oklahoma City garage. The McDaniel family saw what their children had outgrown and realized that the shoes that no longer fit Cole, Josh or Meghan could benefit someone else. Thus, C4K was born.
Since its founding 2011, C4K has equipped 150,000 kids with sports shoes, equipment and apparel. We currently partner with 50 youth organizations and over 200 Oklahoma school districts. In early 2017 C4K expanded to Cincinnati, OH. Bari and Brent Lansberg currently operate the Ohio Cleats for Kids chapter.
C4K also encourages the idea of #kidshelpingkids by getting kids involved in every step of our process. Kids host collection drives, join our Teen Boards, spread the word about our mission and learn more about how to give back to their community.
