While in its easly stages the idea of Ompimi is to change the landscape of employee benefits and mortgages.
Mortgages are, for many and most, the most expensive loan anyone would ever take out and they take 30+ years to pay off assuming someone doesn't increase the mortgage to buy a larger house etc.
The idea here is to allow employers to match a mortgage overpayment by their employees in the same way they can match a pension overpayment if they wish to pay more into their pension.
The challenge with pensions is that many people simply don't understand them without expert advise that many and most can't afford. What everyone with a mortgage understands is how much money is being paid in interest every year and every time they re-mortgage.
While this idea needs HMRC to allow an employer to make the payment tax deductible I believe that with the right pressure, the government will pass this idea and allow people to pay larger portions into their mortgage and have that matched by their employer.
This is about real policy change for the millions of mortgage paying employees who are struggling with a mortgage nightmare that could be made better by paying their mortgage off earlier and giving them more disposable income by the time they retire.
