The Department of Health Policy & Management (HPM) at UMD-School of Public Health offers online Master of Public Health in Practice and Policy and Master of Health Administration programs. The programs offer flexibility and increased opportunity to tailor learning that accommodates personal and professional responsibilities through asynchronous virtual instruction by the School of Public Health faculty and experts in the field. Both programs include a practice-based internship and scholarly capstone paper. They can be completed in 2 years of full-time study or 3 years of part-time study. The online Master of Public Health in Practice and Policy (MPH-PHPP) is 45 credits and provides a multi-disciplinary curriculum for healthcare professionals to assume leadership roles in addressing important public health practice and policy issues nationally and globally by increasing their marketable expertise, professional flexibility and mobility, and career advancement readiness. The program uses evidence-based approaches to public health, program planning, policy, leadership, communication, systems thinking, management, law and economics, and research methods. The online Master of Health Administration (MHA) is 46 credits and provides an integrated curriculum to address the growing needs of the healthcare industry. The program prepares graduates to manage the many complex health-related organizations such as hospitals, health care systems, insurance companies, among others. The program offers courses in leadership and administration, communication, quantitiave methods, health law and ethics, health economics and analysis, strategic management of human resources, health service information systems, financial management of health organizations, marketing for competitive health service, quality assessment and evaluation.
