When human beings enter dialogue, possibilities are exponential. Our primary implement involves using ourselves and the space in-between ourselves and others, to engender a way of listening to multiple voices/perspectives openly. When we allow this, there gives more opportunity for new understandings where resources and solutions which had not been previously known, can emerge. The principles of Open Dialogue, originally developed in Northern Finland’s mental health response service (which is still practiced today with extraordinary success) are, (1) immediate help, (2) polyphony/dialogism, (3) flexibility/mobility, (4) social network involvement, (5) psychological continuity, (6) responsibility, and (7) tolerance of uncertainty. Applying these to your organization is a dynamic process and requires structure to lay the groundwork.
