Open Labs: Science Outreach & Careers Pathways

We are multi-university science-outreach organization of teammates who share a passion to inspire underrepresented students to pursue careers in the sciences. Since our inception in 2012 at Yale University, our non-traditional structure and network of events have allowed us to reach over 3,000 students (6-12th grade) and parents across the North East. The interactions that we have begun to forge through our network of events allow the development of long-term relationships between students and our graduate fellows. The impact and scalability of Open Labs, directed by the initiative of voluntary participants, have prompted an expansion effort to a growing number of universities, including University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, Columbia University, and Harvard University. For the impact of Open Labs at Yale and throughout the North East and its community leadership, we were recognized by the Yale-Jefferson Award for Public Service.
