About Opening the Book Ltd
Opening the Book specialises in the design and installation of reader-friendly interiors for public and school libraries. We also run training programmes in the reader-centred approach for library staff. Sister company, Opening the Book Furniture, designs and manufactures innovative book display furniture for libraries and schools, including the BookSpace range. In 2016 we set up Opening the Book North America to take our ideas and products to the United States and Canada, building on our partnership with established library supplier, Brodart Company. Library Furniture Opening the Book offers a complete range from fun children's library furniture to clever merchandising ideas through to whole library designs. Library Design Opening the Book's experienced designers provide space planning and design services for all sizes of libraries. From quick advice to feasibility studies to full installations, we can help you make the most of your options and persuade others of the benefits of including a library. School Library Design A successful Learning Commons is an energising environment for a wide range of learning activities. We can help you create an exciting and flexible student-centred space which can become the hub of your school. Library Shelving Opening the Book offers two high quality shelving systems. Active shelving gives maximum flexibility for dynamic, hard-working spaces and Performance shelving creates open, organic layouts. These unique shelving systems can be used separately or together to create imaginative, exciting and stimulating libraries. Library Training Library work is changing and staff need new skills. On the shop floor, customer care is becoming customer engagement while traditional displays are being replaced by retail-style merchandising. Today’s library managers are expected to develop new expertise in marketing and audience development, in strategic thinking, advocacy and partnership skills.
