About Open Kitchen
Open Kitchen is Manchester’s leading sustainable food company. Our team of passionate chefs create beautiful, unique and thoughtful menus for any occasion or event. Our model is a bit unique. We work with many food businesses to intercept perfectly edible food that would otherwise go to waste. For every tonne of food that we stop from going to waste, we stop 4.2 tonnes of CO2e from being emitted, so we are actively helping to lower Greater Manchester’s carbon footprint. We also purchase ingredients with intention. Everything we buy promotes the positive food future we want to see. Supporting only local, sustainably produced food and drink from independent suppliers, and organic, Fairtrade, and social enterprise producers where possible. We use this unique mix of ingredients to run two different food and drink operations... • Open Kitchen Catering - Our events catering business delivers catering to a host of corporate and private customers, offering everything from simple sandwich platters and corporate event catering, to wedding feasts and canapés. • Open Kitchen Cafe & Bar at People’s History Museum - Our riverside Spinningfields cafe & bar is open 7 days a week serving breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks. Our city centre team also provide catering for events and meetings within the People’s History Museum. Our riverside cafe space is also available for private hire for parties, dinners, and canapés and drinks events. As we are constantly intercepting food from all over Greater Manchester, our menus change every single day to stop good food from being wasted, and also to work with what’s local and seasonal. We hope to highlight (and stop) problems within the food system, and demonstrate what we believe are some of the solutions. We want to drive a local, independent, sustainable and fair food system, owned by local people from all walks of life.
