Our mission is to empower people living in poverty to address their own challenges through locally driven initiatives in agriculture, health, education, and women’s empowerment. By fostering self-reliance and sustainable development, we aim to support lasting change.
As a small charity run almost entirely by dedicated Trustees and volunteers, we are organised into two groups: the Donors Group, which handles the outward-facing aspects of the charity, and the Grants Group, which focuses on the project work.
Each project we support is overseen by a link Trustee with relevant experience, ensuring effective oversight and guidance. We view the local leaders of each project as our partners and take pride in the personal relationships we build with them. We believe our partners are the true experts in their fields, best positioned to drive meaningful change in their communities.
Founded in the 1950s by the Baptist Missionary Society to support their new agricultural missionaries, Operation Agri was adopted by the Baptist Men’s Movement in 1961. In the 1990s, Operation Agri registered as a charity and became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2020. Initially, the charity focused on supplying tools and seeds to agricultural projects overseas. However, over the last fifty years, it has evolved to provide grants rather than goods, partnering with impactful projects in 11 countries across Africa, Asia, and Central America.
