Opportunity Knocks on PBS

Opportunity Knocks is the award-winning reality television series on PBS that blends entertainment with real-life financial empowerment. Designed using behavioral science and grounded in first-person storytelling, the series follows families across America as they confront financial stress, find trusted support, and unlock new possibilities. Each episode features one-on-one guidance from nationally recognized Opportunity Coaches who help families overcome barriers—from crushing debt to career roadblocks to the high cost of childcare. Viewers are invited to “live the show” through two free digital tools: The Opportunity Finder connects people to over 17,000 trusted local nonprofits, not-for-profit credit unions, and CDFIs offering services like payday loan relief, job training, food access, and small business support. The Opportunity Coach offers personalized financial health plans that help users reduce stress, build savings, and take control of their future. Rather than placing blame or offering one-size-fits-all advice, our approach removes shame, restores dignity, and provides access to practical, personalized solutions. Broadcast nationally on PBS and streaming on PBS Passport and YouTube, Opportunity Knocks has won 22 major awards, including honors from the Tellys, Anthem Awards, Viddy, W3, dotCOMM, and the Academy of Reality Television, for its social impact, educational value, and outstanding storytelling.
