Optalay provide export or array cable monitoring systems for offshore wind farm projects. Our CoreTEST fibre optic monitoring system can monitor up to 288 fibres, although 96 is most commonly used. Uniquely we test at multiple wavelengths, typically 1310,1550 and 1625nm although we can test up to 18 different wavelengths. In addition to monitoring the fibre optic cables we also monitor the conductors using TDR. The system is available in two versions. The marine version is installed in the cable carousel on the cable laying vessel. It monitors the cable as it is installed. Any deviation in strain generates alarms which are sent by email, SMS text message or audibly. The substation version is permanently installed in a rack in the on or offshore substation. It continuously monitors the cable and provides immediate alarms if damage occurs to the cable.
