Total Cost Management and Total Cost to Serve Many firms provide cost management services. In many situations, an initiative addresses a business function or process, and the initiative is focused on improving cost performance in that specific area. In our practice, we approach all initiatives with a total cost perspective regardless of the specific function or process that is the focus. We analyze upstream and downstream functions and processes to ensure that the target initiative does not result in simply shifting the cost performance issue to another part of the organization. We Define TOTAL Cost to Serve as Follows: “If it’s on the P&L, we allocate it to Cost to Serve!” Our proprietary analytics platform performs activity profiling of pertinent business data. These activities include cost to manufacture/procure, order size and frequency, revenue, AR performance, and up to 20 other TCS activity factors. The activity profiles assign and allocate cost burdens according to business activity and generate TCS driven customer and SKU level cost and profitability outputs.
