Animal law is in full swing. In recent years, the question of our relationship with animals has come to the forefront of public attention. The law is adapting. Legislators have recognized that animals are sentient beings and have enacted significant protections, while judges and jurists are implementing this new legal status. Every year, new rules and disputes contribute to the evolution of animal law. However, there was a noticeable lack of a forum that brings together Québec jurists and philosophers interested in these developments.
OUR VISION
The Québec Animal Law Institute was created to provide a space to bring together the Québec community of jurists and philosophers who wish to reflect on the treatment of animals in law and how it might be improved. By mobilizing passionate minds, the Institute aims to stimulate research and teaching in animal law, as well as initiatives related to animal protection.
ANIMAL LAW
By bringing together this passionate community, the term "animal law" is taken in its broadest sense. On the one hand, it encompasses this specific area of law, as well as the ways in which animals are treated in other areas. On the other hand, it encompasses both the legal rules that apply to animals and the philosophical foundations that underlie them. The Institute aims to enrich the animal law community with a diversity of perspectives and disciplines.
