ORCHESTRA is a €4.8m Horizon 2020 funded collaboration with 10 world leading partners looking at optimizing electric network architectures & systems for more electric aircraft.
This project, coordinated by University of Nottingham (leading University in Europe on aircraft electrification) brings together global industry leaders Leonardo (Europe's leading regional aircraft company) and Safran (the world's largest provider of aircraft systems). Other partners are thermal management experts CIRA and Fraunhofer. innovative businesses Skylife, BSim & Aeromechs, certification expert VR Aviation Safety Partnership and AIT-electrical energy storage technology experts.
The goalds are to achieve a 25% reduction in Electrical Power System (EPS) weight. 10% improvement in EPS efficiency and a smart supervisory control system using aritifical intelligence.
