Recognizing the existential threat posed by the global climate change crisis, realizing the urgent need for local action from the grassroots, and responding to the gap in the waste and recycling sector, Organiko Investments (Pvt) Ltd is a Zimbabwean youth start-up with a bold mission of “Greening The World” through sustainable solid waste management. Our work embraces zero-waste principles and supports a circular economy. Incorporated in 2021, with 5 years of operational experience as Zero Waste Social Enterprises, the company has made a considerable environmental impact and has worked towards and maintained a waste diversion rate of 50%. Having cleared over 200 dump sites, spearheaded dozens of awareness campaigns and recovered at least 1500T of recyclable materials, our impact is growing far and wide. Initially set up as a recycling company, a pioneering diversification to combine waste collection with recycling, in Zimbabwe, began in February 2023. While operating a fleet of both heavy vehicles (10T-15T trucks) and light vehicles (1.5T-3.5T trucks), our business model now offers critical intervention in waste separation at source through the “2BinSystem,” a strategy consistent with local and global best practices. An overwhelming response from the market has quickly elevated us as Harare’sl readers in integrated solid waste management. Our values (the 5Ps) have helped empower hundreds of informal waste pickers, forge essential partnerships and build zero-waste communities.
