Observatoire de la Souveraineté Alimentaire et de l'Environnement - OSAE

OSAE, or the Observatory for Food Sovereignty and the Environment, is a Tunisian non-profit, egalitarian, inclusive, and independent citizen-based organisation. The organisation is built around a core belief in food and environmental rights and sovereignty, vectored through a research-based advocacy approach. It seeks to formulate policy alternatives for development-related issues and to engage with citizens and civil society organizations through the dissemination of its research findings. Furthermore, OSAE is dedicated to supporting the inter-generational right for equal and unconditional access to natural resources and contests the norm that the purpose of agricultural activities should be to prioritise financial profits over nourishing the population and safeguarding biodiversity and ancestral eco-friendly practices and production models. The Observatory’s values are dignity, respect for human rights, and social and environmental justice, and its objectives are to: - Conduct scientific and academic research related to food sovereignty, agricultural policies, access to food and nutrition, the environment, biodiversity, and environmental and social justice, etc. - Diffuse knowledge related to OSAE’s activities and democratise it as to reach different audiences such as civil society actors, activists, researchers, decision makers, and the wider public. - Promote collective and social awareness regarding the ecological and socio-economic risks of intensive and extractive agricultural activities. - Support small-scale farming models that reinforce food security at the local and family levels, secure the protection of the environment, and promote equitable access to natural resources. - Foster the development, decompartmentalization, and mainstreaming of social science research on food-related, agricultural, and ecological issues.
